As a family, we travel by car often and nothing helps the time go faster than listening to music. However, on those longer journeys the songs start getting a little too repetitive (does your family have more than three agreed upon artists to listen to or is that just us?). We’ve found that listening to a podcast is a great way for the family to take a little break and redirect our attention. Sometimes we even learn something!

These amazing books got even better now that they are narrated in a podcast. A quality production of inspiring stories and about women and girls throughout history and today.

Car Trip Trivia

It took me ages to find a trivia podcast that was fun for the whole family. I really like the format of twenty questions, and the answers are given immediately. Perfect for listening in the car. This podcast became a staple to our morning routine.

Whose Amazing Life

Gives the biography of someone starting from their childhood and you have to guess who it is they are talking about. It is a good way for my kids to really listen as they collect clues.

Who Smarted?

I don’t really find this educational podcast that funny, but it does try to incorporate humor while teaching kids about science and history. It is not quite our taste, but it might be yours!

5. Fierce Girls

to Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls but about Australian girls who “dare to do things differently”. This is an Australian podcast and I like that the stories are read by younger narrators. 

6. Story Store

we enjoyed this podcast a lot a couple of years ago when the girls were a little younger. From the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), young callers ask for a story about a certain topic and the narrators go from there. Imaginative stories that often make the kids giggle in the back of the car. That counts as a big win in my books!

7. Brains On!

Science podcast for kids- focuses on science topics such as the solar eclipse, how ibuprofen works, and even an entire podcast dedicated to bugs. There are guest speakers to keep things interesting.

8. Bust or trust

A kids mystery podcast- Listeners are the chief detectives while they hear strange stories from around the world. At the end they need to decide if they believe the myth (myth truster) or not (myth buster).

9. Forever Ago

Learn more about the history of a mish mash of everyday things like Olympics, the birthday song, where did the weekend come from, and the history of the microwave. 

10. 10 for Teens + Tweens

Roughly ten-minute episodes where the host talks about important empowering messages and topics for girls. Even if my girls might be too young to listen to it now, it is a great resource for me now and them in the future!
